Faithco Updates

Here are a few thoughts and updates from Faithco:

1.  Last Friday, Pulse put on a 5th Quarter event for Shawnee High School.  We had a good turnout and had a great time.  I especially enjoyed the dance off, although I didn’t participate.  This Friday, Shawnee will have its Homecoming and we will have another 5th Quarter event.  Spread the word; it will be awesome.

2.  The weekend worship gatherings were awesome.  I always enjoy hearing and sharing what God is doing through the lives of his people who are generous.  If you didn’t get to be here, go to www.faithco.tv and watch the message.  Even if you don’t have the time to watch the whole message, forward to the end where I share Sarah’s story (video).  You’ve got to see this one.

3.  The Building Faith campaign continues to grow.  We received our monthly offering and we are approaching $200,000 in contributions towards our $2 mill goal.  Exciting stuff!

4.  FRIENDS Connect groups met in homes for the first time this season.  We are getting some positive feedback from the group leaders.  If you’re not part of a FRIENDS Connect group, pick up some info at Guest Services and get connected.  These groups are life changing.  –ask someone…

UPCOMING:

1.  We kick off a new series this Sunday called BLIND FAITH.  Don’t miss this series.

2.  BIKES FOR KIDS is just around the corner.  Don’t forget to start putting money back for a bike or two for a few kids in our community.

that’s all for now.

FCO Updates:

I’ve been either out of town or out of pocket lately and haven’t been posting. I thought today would be a good day to get back in routine and let you know what has been going on lately at Faithco.  Also, I want to give you some updates on what to expect over the next few weeks:

1.  Pulse has started a fifth quarter event here on Friday nights after the home games.  The last fifth quarter was awesome and the next one will be this Friday after the SHS home game against Norman.  Although it is scheduled for high school and middle school kids, we always are looking for adult volunteers for set up, break down, clean up, and over all supervision.  Think about it, you’ll have a blast.

2.  We concluded the series INTERVENTION this past Sunday.   Deana did an amazing job communicating just how God speaks to us.  If you weren’t here, try to go watch this message at www.faithco.tv.  Really, it was an amazing message (ignore the stories about me).

3.  FRIENDS OF SUMMER was the best Friends event we’ve had.  It was a great way to kick off our new Friends season.  Make sure you are a part of a Friends small group.  Being a part of a Friends community group has got to be a top priority for all of us at Faithco.

What’s Coming:

This Sunday we will revisit what we are planning to do in our future and receive our monthly Building Faith Offering.

BLIND FAITH -New series in October; don’t miss it.  The subject of faith is one of my favorite.  Get ready to change; I know we all will.

One more thing, there is a Dream Girls event tonight at 6:30pm.  These events draw women from our entire community, not just from our church.  If you are a chic, be there and bring a friend….life changing stuff.

that’s it for now…

Faithco News and Updates:

I just wanted to share some of the great things that are happening at Faithco:

1.  Pulse Youth last week was awesome.  Rolondo, one of the guys who volunteer at Pulse on Wednesday’s shared his story.  It was awesome.  Pulse continues to grow with lots of momentum.  Pulse is going to Eufala Lake this weekend to have some fun.  I suppose I will volunteer for this event :) .

2.  Discovery 2 met last Wednesday with Deana directing the personality test that we give all newcomers.  It is always interesting to see what people learn about themselves and each other.  We believe that as people learn about themselves, they can better choose where God may be leading them to serve.  This Wednesday, Discovery 3 will be the spiritual gifting test.  This test identifies and brings into focus the God-given gifts we all possess.  These sessions continue to be life changing.

3.  The INTERVENTION Series just keeps getting more interesting.  I still believe that this series will change a lot of hearts and lives.

Don’t forget:  Baptism (8/31), Building Faith Offering (9/4),  Communion (9/7), Power Team (9/11), Friends Connect groups kick off with a group Olympics theme (9/18).

I don’t say it enough:  Thanks for being a part of Faithco.

that’s it

Faithco Events and Updates:

I am excited about the things that are happening at Faithco.  Here’s a quick look at last week and some upcoming events here at church:

1.  Pulse youth continues to grow; Kimmy Huxford delivered a great message to the youth about God’s grace and how it cleanses us.   Pulse is always a blast, and the food is always great!

2.  I spoke at our Discovery 1 session.  We are talking to 5 new families who are exploring church membership, church volunteerism and service, FRIENDS connect groups, and all the other topics of Newcomers and Discovery123.  People continue to join our church.  A healthy church is a growing church.

3.   I kicked off a new series called INTERVENTION.  This series explores how God sends people into the lives of others to confront them where and how they need to be confronted.  Last weekend we discussed how Abigail intervened in David’s life and kept him from murdering an innocent man.  This was a powerful message; I recommend that you check it out at www.faithco.tv if you were gone on Sunday.  Also, don’t miss the next parts of the series.  I believe they will be powerful messages.

4.  Things to remember:

  • August 31 –Baptism Celebration –Always a great time!
  • Sept 11-12 Next Generation Power Team — This will be something different.
  • FRIENDS Connect groups are gearing up for the new season; make sure you get connected.
  • Building Faith, the campaign for our new campus is on schedule.  Remember, we receive a monthly offering for commitments on the first Sunday of each month.  Be a part of the campaign by committing to give monthly.  No pressure…. just think about it.  It’s a good cause.
  • That’s it.

This Past Weekend…

Our Easter, Resurrection Sunday was one of the best we’ve ever experienced at Faithco.  Here are just a few of the highlights:

  1. First of all, at least 25 people came to Christ in our adult and kid’s worship experiences.  People becoming followers through our church is a gift from God.
  2. The 8:00am worship turned out to be one of the best Easter ideas we’ve had,  I was surprised with all the people who showed up.  I didn’t know we had so many early risers.  The early service had a great feel.
  3. Our volunteers served with such excellence.  So many people got up very early to serve in 1, 2, and even all 3 services.  Some of our people worked all week-long to make the campus look better for this special weekend.  A great church has great people who display great service for his house and the community.  I am truly blessed to lead such a special servant minded church.
  4. The Praise Band was off the chart yesterday.  Man, they really blessed me.  Every now and then, we get Deana (my wife) on the band; she’s always a treat.
  5. Our Creative Media team brought out some great video.  Thanks to Bobby and all those who work so hard week-end and out, we are blessed with many visual effects.  Yesterday’s message would have been totally different without the video at the end.  You guys are the best!!
  6. All the rain was a blessing, but it was a challenge for our Easter egg hunt.  Still, our Faith kids team of volunteers made it happen by hunting inside.
  7. I had someone come up to me at the end of worship and thank me for the message on Christ’s resurrection.  She said many churches don’t teach on the resurrection on Easter.  My response to her was “hmm”.  I was so surprised by her statement that I had nothing to say.  What church doesn’t…..I’m not going there.

I know I’m missing something.  It was such an incredible day and so much happened.  It amazes me how fast the biggest and one of the most significant weekends of the year for the church goes by.  I’ll spend a couple of days basking in all the good things that happened; we will discuss it for about 30 minutes in this morning’s leadership team meeting, and I’ll get a few comments on Facebook.  Then, we move on and start looking at what’s next for Faithco.

He always has more and better for your life and his church.

That’s it.

The Most Celebrated Event in Church History

The biggest, most celebrated event in church history is the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  This weekend, churches around the world will be observing and celebrating in various ways the phenomenon of the empty tomb of Christ.

If you take a look at the magazine racks, the media, or just about any best-selling book store rack, you will see a plethora of  ”experts” who claim Jesus was not resurrected and they also have a theory of what might have happened.

Trying to disprove the resurrection of Christ has been going on for Centuries.  Even on the day when it was discovered that Jesus was missing from the tomb, the Pharisees got together with the guards and bribed them to spread the word that Jesus’ disciples stole his body in the middle of the night(Matthew 28:11). I don’t have time to get into this too deeply but like I said, it’s nothing new.

I choose to believe that he rose from the dead, and I will be celebrating his resurrection this weekend with his church.  From the worship experience to the Easter egg hunt, we are celebrating the most significant event in church history.  I hope you celebrate this event too.

By the way, for all of the faithco family, make sure you check out our Facebook page (Faith Christian) to keep track of all the festivities.  We are doing some extra things, like adding an 8:00am worship.  Also, if you have registered at CCB, look for some reminder emails.  If you haven’t registered at CCB (Church Community Builder), I highly recommend you doing so by going to our website and following the easy steps.  You’ll love it.

Wherever and however you celebrate His resurrection this weekend, I hope you have a great one.

This Past Week at Faithco…

Here are a few of my thoughts concerning last week:

  1. It is incredible to see all the Friends Community groups coming together to do some spring cleaning on our facilities.  This place needed some attention.  From painting and repairing the walls, to washing the outside of the building, this place is becoming spic and span (a term my mother used to use).
  2. Pulse not only met Wednesday night, but also went to a concert in down-town Shawnee Sunday night.  I heard there was lots of head-banging.  My kids came home pumped last night.  Kids.
  3. Yesterday was Bring a Friend Sunday and it was the kickoff of our annual Reach One Outreach event.  It is nice to know I pastor a church where people are comfortable bringing their friends.
  4. This is Jesus…The Man.   I think the message stirred some thought on His humanity.  I know it messed me up.
  5. The on-stage interviews of people who are committed to the Building Faith campaign are priceless.  Jim and Kay Doolin are amazing people, and we got to hear their story yesterday.  It was amazing and heart-felt.
  6. Two words: Penny Wars.

Don’t forget, Grandparents day is next Sunday, this will be an unforgettable experience for the whole family so make sure you are there.

Whew, we are doing a lot right now.

This Past Week…

What an amazing week and weekend at Faithco.  Here are a few of the highlights:

1.  Last Wednesday, we brought all our Friends community groups leaders together for a “thanks for your leadership” dinner.  We have about 10-12 groups that meet all over this county every other Sunday night.  So much life-change happens in these groups.  If you are not yet part of a Friends community group, you can find out more by sending Landon a message here:  landon@faithco.org.   Our Friends community groups have one more month of meeting until this season is over.  Wow, it went by fast.

2.  Pulse, which meets every Wednesday at 7pm, is always a blast for everyone who attends.  The best way to keep up with what happens at Pulse is through our Pulse Facebook page.  It’s easy to find.  Just type in “Pulse” on the Facebook search engine and look for our logo.

3.  You may have noticed, we are using various people on Sundays for various reasons.  You may have noticed Brandon as our emcee this past weekend.  He is an OBU intern student who has been with us a couple of years.  We love him and know God is going to use him in ministry wherever he ends up.  Also, we have been interviewing some of our people who have committed to the Building Faith campaign.  Over the next few weeks, we are going to hear from more couples and individuals who have stepped out in faith to commit to help us build our new campus.  The stories have been amazing, and they keep getting better.

4.  Penny Wars….our kids are fun.

5.  We kicked off our Easter series called “This is Jesus”.  If you missed the first part of the 4-part series you can check it out here:  www.faithco.tv.

6.  This weekend is our annual Bring a Friend Sunday.  We will have prizes to give to a few of our guests and a to a few of the people who brought them.  Be there and bring a friend.

Okay, that’s it.

This Past Week…

It’s great to be a part of such a healthy thriving church community.  Here are a few reflections of this past week:

1.  Pulse youth is one of the most exciting ministries in our church.  If you have a teen between the ages 12-18, get them to faithco Wednesday’s at 6:30.  It will change their life.   Really.

2.  Sunday worship was jam packed with so much to do.  Our services are scheduled for about 75 minutes.  Lately, we are hard pressed to get everything in.  If we go a little over, please bare with us as we are doing more with the Building Faih Campaign.

3.  The Building Faith Campaign is already causing a return on lives and families.  I love to hear all the stories, so please keep posting them on facebook or on this blog.

4.  I really enjoyed all the Pulse youth and the Faithkids involvement in the worship experience.  It is exciting and healthy to have our kids practice faith and generosity.

Until next time…

This Past Week…

I believe February was probably the busiest month of my life.  Between flying to Utah to finalize our church design and my wife’s surgery, I’ve been stretched.  However, all the great things that God has done is keeping me charged and excited.  Here are a few of those things:

1.  We are beginning a 60 day season of giving.  About 30% of our church has committed to the Building Faith Campaign.  Over the next 8 weeks, as our people become more aware of what we are doing and how they can contribute, we will definitely see that number grow.   I can’t tell you how excited I am to see what is going on in our church.

2.  The new campus design is a big hit.  I think we exceeded expectations with the help of the BGW architect team.  This structure will be a dream come true.

3.  People continue to come to Christ through our worship experiences.  I don’t care if it is 1 or 20 on a given weekend.  I never get used to it, and I never take it for granted.  It’s always fresh and amazing to me when someone lifts his/her hand and receives Christ.

If you don’t follow us on facebook, you can find us at Faith Christian.  Also, go to our website (www.faithco.org) and sign up on CCB if you would like weekly updates and messages sent to your email.  I get them and they are pretty informative and encouraging.

Okay, that’s all I’ve got.
